What is the Pro Sports Team Challenge?
The Pro Sports Team Challenge (Team Challenge) is a team golf competition among 16 Hall of Fame superstars representing the 4 major US sports – baseball, basketball, football and hockey to determine which sport has the best golfers. Fans, acting as ProCoaches, use the internet and text messaging to make strategy decisions for their favorite team which have a real impact on the outcome of the competition.
Who are the ProCoaches?
When you register with Team Challenge, you can become a ProCoach and become a legitimate voice of one of the 4 sports teams. You can talk to other ProCoaches to get the best results for your team and yourself. You assist your team by deciding which player in each of the 4 rounds will play for double points – the 2X Player. ProCoaches will blog, email, and IM to get their team of players to #1. There is no set style for ProCoaching; you can be a silent partner, quietly voting, or a multitasking megaphone who’s got an angle on every player in the game. And when your team pulls off a runaway victory, you and the other ProCoaches will own that success. A ProCoach registers with Team Challenge for free and a VIP ProCoach pays a one-time fee of $10.00.
What unique benefits do VIP ProCoaches receive?
A VIP ProCoach has all the benefits of a ProCoach plus is eligible for special prizes from Team Challenge. First, a VIP ProCoach will receive a special ProCoach Certificate signed by the Team Captain and a photo autographed by your team. Secondly, only VIP ProCoaches have access to Team Challenge sports trivia questions and can win all expense paid trips to next years Team Challenge to serve as the Honorary Team Captain for your chosen team or to play golf with the superstars in the Pro-Am. Finally, a VIP ProCoach helps the team charity because $1.00 of your payment is added to your team charity’s purse.
Which format of team golf is used in the Team Challenge?
There are 2-days of competition in the Team Challenge and each day uses a different format.
Day 1 - Four-Ball (Best Ball): A pair of players – 4 players, 4 balls – competes against an opposing pair. Each player strokes his own ball and whoever scores the lowest on a hole has won that hole, and earns points for the team. Player handicaps are used to determine the player’s score for the hole. There are 3 Best Ball Matches for each pairing (total of 6 matches for the team) on Day 1 so that each team plays against all other teams. Holes are scored using a patent pending Power Scoring system.
Day 2 - Foursomes will play modified skins matches with each foursome represented by one player from each team. Four 18-hole matches will be played. For each hole, the lowest net score using player handicaps will receive 3 points, second lowest score receives 2 points, and third lowest score receives 1 point. No points are awarded for the highest score for the hole. Points are halved for ties.
Cumulative scores over the match for each player are added to team totals with the highest aggregate team point totals over the 2 days determining the order of team finish.
What is Power Scoring?
On Day 1, Best Ball matches are played. In match play events like the Ryder Cup, one point is received by the winning team in the match. In Team Challenge, our scoring measures the impact of thumpings and squeakers. The winning pair in a match receives points equal to the total of the holes ahead plus holes unplayed at the time the match is closed out. For example, a pair that sweeps its match by winning the first 5 holes, thus winning 5 and 4 in Ryder Cup language, receives 9 points for the win rather than 1 point. If you win 1 up, you receive one point. The more powerful your players are on the course, the more points the team receives. And wait till you see how the 2X factor magnifies this!
What is Strat.e.Golf?
Strat.e.Golf is the interface and system that allows the ProCoaches to gather data, manage their golf team, communicate and build communities, make decisions, and track their results. It is our tool for bringing you inside the ropes. Team Challenge lets the fans, acting by majority vote on their chosen team, to make real coaching decisions.
What is the 2X player?
The 2X player is the player or pairing selected by the ProCoach in each format, whose point totals are doubled.
What is the point of the 2X player?
In the Team Challenge, the 2X player will set ProCoaches apart from each other. When we were dissecting all the fantasy sports systems, we kept bumping into a star power wall. A break-out game by an unknown doesn’t register a blip on most fantasy games’ radar. And a consistent powerhouse is just that. By introducing the 2X player, we saw a way to draw the best strategy out of the group, while still giving every single ProCoach a huge incentive to raise their individual Strat.EQs. By making the right decisions on the 2X, fans can add more points to the team totals than many of the players on their team. For example, For example, if the team chooses as its 2X the player on Day 2 who wins all 18 holes, the fans would add 54 points to the team totals (3 “skins” x 18= 54, doubled if that player is designated by the ProCoachesTM as the 2X).
What is a Fav Player?
It’s whoever on your team you want it to be! Every fan has a favorite player or an idol. You get to root for him and follow his success. His scores are added to your Strat.EQ.
What is a Strat.EQ?
Strat.EQ is the measurement of a ProCoach’s success rate. It is a coaching IQ. Strat.EQ is determined by adding the following player scores actually received in each round of play:
- The 2X Players score chosen by the ProCoach if the ProCoach voted with the majority
- The score of the 2X selection of the ProCoach (whether or not chosen by the majority)
- The score of the Fave Player selection of the fan (can also be the 2X player).
The scores in each round are cumulated to determine EQ. Tiebreakers are resolved by going to the highest score in categories 1,2,3 above in descending order (example - the tying fan with the highest score in category 1 is the winner, then go to category 2 if still tied etc). If still tied after all 3, random drawings will break ties.
At Team Challenge, we want to keep every aspect of the game competitive without setting our participants up against lottery-like odds to beat. A ProCoach’s Strat.EQ also determines which prizes he or she is eligible for.
What kind of prizes do I get from the Team Challenge?
Grand prize for overall highest Strat.EQ will be an all inclusive fantasy-to-reality travel package. Grand Prizes at team levels will be a weekend travel package and tickets to a regular season competition for your team. Second tier prizes will include gift certificates and other prizes from Team Challenge sponsors.
How do charities benefits from the Team Challenge?
The purse of $250,000 is all paid to charities First prize is $100,000, second is $75,000, third is $50,000 and fourth is $25,000. Each team is playing for a charity chosen by the Team Captain. Also, $1.00 of every VIP Pro Coach registration is added to the purse for that ProCoach’s team.
